The Linn County Road Department completes roadway maintenance, repair, and improvement projects throughout the year to help preserve and enhance the county transportation system.

Asphalt repair work is underway on sections of McDowell Creek Drive between the lower McDowell Creek park area and Camp Tadmor. Work will occur periodically throughout the summer months as crews continue paving and roadway preservation efforts in the area.
The current work consists primarily of leveling and overlay repairs designed to improve the driving surface, protect previous repair areas, and help extend the life of the roadway.
McDowell Creek Drive is being evaluated for potential future improvements through a federal grant funding opportunity. Because grant application and award processes can take time, these interim repairs are being completed now to help maintain roadway conditions and reduce future project costs if funding is secured.
While Linn County is optimistic about future funding opportunities, grant awards are not guaranteed. The current work is being completed as part of ongoing maintenance and preservation efforts to improve travel conditions in the meantime.
Motorists should expect periodic delays, flaggers, and construction activity during paving operations.
Two federally funded roadway improvement projects are scheduled for North River Drive during the 2026 construction season.
The first project extends from Quartzville Drive to Foster Dam Road and includes roadway widening between Quartzville Drive and Sunnyside Road, slide stabilization, improvements to the Gedney Creek boat ramp entrances, construction of a wayside parking area at Lewis Creek Park, and repaving of the roadway.
Construction is expected to begin in mid-June and continue through the fall. During construction, North River Drive will be closed between Quartzville Drive and Sunnyside Road. Local access will be maintained for residents.
The second project extends from Pleasant Valley Road to Foster Dam Road and consists of pavement repairs and an asphalt overlay. Construction is expected to begin in mid-July and last approximately one month. This section of roadway will remain open during construction, though delays should be anticipated.
Both projects are being completed by North Santiam Paving Co.

Estimated Schedule: July 27 – August 10, 2026
Annual chip seal preservation work is scheduled to begin in late July within portions of the Scio and Sweet Home Road Districts. Chip sealing is a preventative roadway maintenance treatment used to help preserve existing pavement surfaces and extend roadway life.
Motorists should expect loose rock, reduced speeds, flaggers, and brief delays in active work areas. Temporary speed reductions will remain in place until sweeping and pavement striping operations are complete.
Residents within active work areas may experience temporary delays or intermittent access impacts during operations. Pavement markings will be restored after sweeping and fog seal operations are complete.
