The Library of Things is a collection of tools, equipment, home, and recreational items that are available for loan from the law library. The purpose of the Library of Things is to provide community members with diverse opportunities for learning and engagement. These items include tools, equipment, games, and other resources that encourage learning and creativity within the community.
Procurement of Materials:
Library staff will select materials for the Library of Things based on the needs and interests of library patrons, as well as storage space and budget considerations.
Collection Maintenance:
The Library of Things collection is regularly reviewed and evaluated to ensure its ongoing relevance. Items in the Library of Things are evaluated using the same criteria that are used for the rest of the library’s collection.
Library’s Use of Things:
The library reserves the right to remove a Thing from circulation for library purposes temporarily or to repair a damaged item.
Borrowing:
Patrons are unable to place holds on Things through the library’s online catalog system. Patrons may reserve some Library Things by calling or visiting the library. For a complete list of reservable items, please contact library staff. NOTE: The library cannot guarantee that a Thing will be available for its reservation date if it has not yet been returned by the previous borrower. The library will make reasonable attempts to retrieve said item from the borrower to fulfill the reservation.
To borrow an item from the collection, come in person to the Law Library Information Desk and ask for the item you would like to borrow. Items are available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved. Library staff will let you know which items are available for lending when you come in person. Items are available for a 7-day loan. Patrons who do not return Library of Things items by the due date will be responsible for lost item/replacement fees and/or will be unable to borrow an item in the future.
