ALBANY, Ore. — At their June 9 meeting, Linn County Commissioners Roger Nyquist, Sherrie Sprenger and Will Tucker approved a contract for $2,441,679.20 with Legacy Contracting of Stayton for the Cox Creek Drive Bridge Project in Millersburg.

The project will be administered by the Linn County Road Department and is scheduled to start on June 15. Some 89.73% of the cost will be funded through ODOT’s Local Agency Certification Program and the City of Millersburg will contribute 10.27%.

According to the City of Millersburg, Waverly Drive is the sole access route into Talking Waters Garden, the Simpson Park parking lot and access to Portland & Western railroad yard. The existing bridge is 65 years old, is structurally deficient and load-restricted and is reduced to a single travel lane.

The timbers also trap logs and debris in the creek below the bridge.

The new bridge will be constructed of concrete and feature a single, 110-foot-long span over the creek. There will be two lanes of vehicle travel and an 8 ½ foot wide sidewalk for pedestrians.

The new bridge will be constructed one-half at a time, allowing access to Simpson Park and Talking Waters Garden during the construction process, although vehicles and pedestrians can expect 20-minute delays to cross the bridge.

The commissioners also approved easements with the Blue Ox RV Park of Albany for the Goldfish Farm Road Improvement Project. The easements were for $358, $312, $179 and $15,162.

    In other business the commissioners:

  • Began reviewing possible county fee schedule changes for the 2026-2027 Fiscal Year.

  • Were informed by Planning & Building Director Steve Wills that there were 54 land use permits and 297 total permits issued in May compared to 296 in May 2025. There were five new code enforcement cases opened in May compared to eight a year ago and five closed, compared to 12 a year ago.

  • Approved a Level 3A Outdoor Assembly Permit for a one-day event at the Albany Rifle & Pistol Club.

  • Announced that a meeting will not be held on June 30.

  • Approved First-Time Youth Wage Grants with Downtown Restaurant and Lounge in Sweet Home and River City Design Build in Albany.
